Police investigate threats after Ermelo march

Police have launched an investigation after online posts allegedly threatened an officer involved in the Ermelo demonstration.

ERMELO – Mpumalanga police have opened an intimidation case after social media posts allegedly called for the murder of an Ermelo police officer following a March and March protest on June 10.

According to SAPS, tensions escalated after some participants identified properties where drugs were allegedly being sold.

SAPS said one participant, Dumisani Khumalo (35), was arrested after allegedly drawing a firearm and pointing it at police officers.

Three others were arrested on charges of malicious damage to property.

Police stated that social media posts later emerged accusing a warrant officer of protecting drug dealers and calling for his murder.
