MBCF and DA call for action on pollution and water leaks in Msukaligwa

The DA members stated they will formally urge Premier Mandla Ndlovu for intervention.

ERMELO – Members of the Msukaligwa Business and Community Forum (MBCF) and the DA visited various sites in and around town on October 14 to address the water crisis residents face.

During the meeting, Leon Basson, the DA’s parliamentary committee chairperson for water and sanitation, Henro Kruger, the party’s spokesperson for small business development, Bosman Grobler, chairperson of the DA in Mpumalanga, and James Masango, a member of the provincial legislature, discussed issues raised by Janice Conradie of the MBCF, as well as concerns from a local farmer.

Oversight visits were conducted at the source of the Vaal River and the waterworks in Breyten, where the members were shocked by the state thereof.

They also visited Douglas Dam, which has reached critically low water levels. Douglas Dam is one of the key water sources for Ermelo.

Conradie expressed her gratitude that these pressing issues would be taken seriously.

The DA members stated they would formally urge Mpumalanga’s Premier Mandla Ndlovu to intervene.

They emphasised that the following issues would receive urgent attention: pollution, water leaks, invalid water licenses, and the declaration of Msukaligwa as a disaster area.

“The DA will ensure that the government implements sustainable strategies so that every household in Msukaligwa can enjoy clean, potable water every day,” said Kruger.
