Stone Breakers breach Winners’ defence

“We were trailing and tried to put more men on the attack and we paid dearly for that

Stone Breakers from KwaDela in Chrissiesmeer broke the defence of the Young Winners from Silobela, Carolina twice in a pulsating soccer match last Sunday at the Silobela grounds in a stream “B” SAB regional league.

The first goal came in the 25th minute of the first half, after Young Winners’ defence conceded a penalty as Stone Breakers’ strikers put them under pressure. Mandla Nazo (5) comfortably converted the spot kick, giving Breakers an early lead.

The second half saw aYoung Winners putting pressure on Breakers’ defence; however, they squandered most of their chances.

Young Winners were disallowed a goal in the 44th minute, after the linesman ruled a handball violation.

Another Nazo brother, Joseph (10), left Winners’ defence helpless in a counter-attack before scoring the second goal of the match in the 75th minute, which increased his tally to 23 goals this season.

Young Winners’ head coach, Mandla Dlamini, was disappointed with the missed opportunities as most of their shots hit the upright.

“We were trailing and tried to put more men on the attack and we paid dearly for that, as our defence was caught sleeping, but that’s the nature of the game,” said Dlamini.

Stone Breakers’ coach, Vincent Mavimbela, was unhappy with the loss of concentration in his defence, but was pleased with his team’s overall performance.

“Our defence was napping on a few occasions; luckily we got away with it,” said Mavimbela.
