Local athletes complete the Comrades Marathon
The Shalom Marathon club achieved a 100 per cent finish rate and they give the credit to team work.
All seven members of the Shalom Marathon Club who participated in the Comrades Marathon last Sunday (4 June), successfully completed it within the 12 hour cut-off time.
Petros Ndlangamandla was the first Shalom athlete to cross the finish line in 7:52:57 to earn himself the Bill Rowan (silver with bronze) medal.
He was followed by Themba “Rasta” Nkosi in 9:22:35 with Molifi Hlangwane finishing in 10:11:06, while Bheki
Shongwe was elated to finish his first Comrades in 10:57:26.
Each one of the trio brought a bronze medal home for their efforts.
Russell Sibiya came back home with two medals, one for finishing like everybody else (Vic Clapham or copper) medal and the other one for finishing the race for two years in succession.
He crossed the finish line in 11:12:53 to get his spoils.
Nelson “Mzu” Nhlabathi used his experience to comfortably finish his third Comrades in 11:37:47, while Shadrack
Nhlapho braved his first Comrades and finished it in 11:51:54.
Like Russell, Sibiya, Nelson and Shadrack also got a copper (Vic Clapham) medal each.
