Gert Sibande Netball League second round brings more action

The highlight of the day was a tense match between local Thundergirls and Secunda's Juventus.

The Gert Sibande Netball League season kicked off recently with teams from across the district participating in order to be crowned champions at the end of the season.

Reigning champions, Thundergirls, are one of the four teams from Msukaligwa Municipality with the Blondies, Func and Camden joining them in flying the local flag high.

The league, started in 2001 and then called the Highveld League, consists of three divisions, the A and B league and the male league.

Teams converged at the netball courts on Saturday, week two of the season, with the day filled with action, sprains, falls and balls.

The highlight of the day was a tense match between local Thundergirls and Secunda’s Juventus which saw both teams bringing their A-game. However Juventus showed their strength, inching out the Thundergirls to take the bragging rights.

It promises to be an action-packed season with the next round of matches played on 8 July at the AJ Swanepoel Stadium.

The top four log standings after the weekend in the A League are Sakhile N.C (first) with Kinross A, Juventus A and Carolina United following them.

In the B League the Blondies B top the log, followed by New Denmark Milan, Double Trouble and Thundergirls.
States Finest are in the lead in the male league, followed by Thunderboys and Juventus Males.
