Local teams welcome midway break as dismal SAB Soccer League season continues

The season has reached its halfway mark and local teams have had a forgettable season so far with only VOC United in the top half of the table

The last week of matches in the SAB Soccer League in the Gert Sibande Stream B, took place at various stadiums around the district on the weekend of 8 and 9 December.

The league has reached its midway point with teams participating in the last round of matches this year with the rest of the season set to resume in 2019.

Local teams once again tasted defeat in what has been a dismal first half of the season. Only VOC United and Mpumalanga Eagles FC registered maximum points in this latest edition.

VOC are on a seven-match unbeaten run and kicked things off at the Mpumalanga Stadium, facing neighbours, Breyten HomeSweepers.

The Breyten side could not handle the VOC team, succumbing to a 2-1 defeat.

Mpumalanga Eagle FC saw off the PR Barcelona side from Piet Retief and won their match 2-1. The team has a new home and is now based in Davel, the only team from that region in the league.

Sun City Gunners lost 2-0 to Blackstone FC. Mafia were handed another defeat by Passion FC from Carolina. That match ended 2-0.

Ermelo United finally registered a point on the log table after drawing their match against Hammers FC. The two teams shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw.

In other matches, Flymingo FC won against Typhoon 2-1 and defending champions, Somhlolo FC drew 0-0 with Breyten Shooters FC.

Log leaders, Manzana FC, continued their winning streak as they were triumphant against Losta Stars. The match ended 2-1.

The team from Badplaas is in form and remain unbeaten since the start of the season.

The season has reached its halfway mark and local teams have had a forgettable season so far.

Local teams face the Christmas break with only VOC United in the top half of the table.

Ermelo United languish at the bottom of the table with Sun City Gunners just a few points ahead of them.

Mafia FC and Mpumalanga Eagles FC also are in the bottom half of the log and the locals will welcome the break to regroup and gather their strength for the rest of the season in the upcoming year.
