Shotokan karatekas from Ermelo excel at national championship

Chinedu Okpugo received gold in kumite, and Chibuzo Okpugo silver.

Three karate students of the Ermelo Shotokan Karate Academy were selected during the provincial karate championship recently hosted here, to represent the Mpumalanga Elite Team at the elite national karate championship in Durban from March 16 to 18, where these students placed highly.

Lesedi Twala won a silver medal in kumite and bronze in kata. Chinedu Okpugo received gold in kumite, and Chibuzo Okpugo silver.

According to Eugene Smith, a sensei of the club, these students have worked hard in preparation for both events and have what it takes to excel in karate.
