Kearsney sails through sporting weekend

Kearsney College enjoys another great weekend of soccer, sailing, golf and waterpolo results.

ONE of the highlights for Kearsney College’s great sporting weekend is the selection of Grade 12 pupil Julian Lewis for the South African U18 water polo team.

The team will travel to Sydney in Australia for the Tri-Nations Tournament in December.

More good news includes soccer results, where Kearsney College won all its age-group soccer fixtures against Clifton College, except for the 1st XV game, which they lost 1-2.

In golf news, Kearsney’s Greg McKay (15) has had a good run on the fairways of late. Having been selected recently for the KZN A golf side, he won last weekend’s North Coast championship at the Umhlali Country Club in a play-off which saw him produce what he described as the shot of his life. He was just trying to get it up on to the green, he said, but he nailed a 6-iron to 10 feet.

In sailing news, Ross Gaughran represented South Africa at the African Optimist Sailing Championships held at Langebaan, Cape Town last week. A Grade 8 pupil at Kearsney College, Ross came 20th out of 78 boats competing. His best race finish for the Regatta was a second place. Conditions were extremely tough with heavy winds and huge swells.
