Hillcrest golfer swings into Team SA for the 19th Amateur World Golfers Champs

AFTER winning the KZN regional elimination in the 19th Amateur World Golfers Championship, Hillcrest resident, Grant Olivier has secure another first place finish at the SA Final with a 0-5 Flighting and will now put his skills to the test against the rest of the world as part of Team South Africa.

76 amateur golfers, who had qualified at the regional eliminations across the country over the past six months, converged in Durban and played their hearts out for the top two positions of their flighting in order to qualify.

Olivier said, “The SA Final was a fantastic golfing experience and a well organised tournament on and off the course with first-class hospitality at the Southern Sun Elangeni. I am looking forward to the World Final and the opportunity of competing against golfers from all over the world”.

“This year’s countrywide search for the best in amateur golf has brought some fantastic talent to the championship. For the past two years Team South Africa has led the field at the outset of the World Final and finished in 2nd and 3rd place overall, with individual flighting victories to our name as well. After watching our selected players emerge through the elimination rounds, we are confident of a home victory this year,” said Craig Clay-Smith, spokesperson for World Golf Events South Africa, the event owners and organisers.

After securing the hosting of the World Golfers Championship World Final for a 3-year period, 2011 to 2013, World Golf Events South Africa is ready for the arrival of up to 50 countries and more than 400 golfers who will compete at four of KZN’s championship courses, including Cotswold Downs, in the World Final from 26 October to 2 November.
