THE combined efforts of Blue Security, residents and the police led to the arrest of two robbery suspects in the Highway area recently.
The managing director for the security company, Darryn le Grange, said a community neighbourhood watch member noticed one of the men in King George Avenue in Forest Hills and had given chase.
“At 3pm in the afternoon the suspect was seen jumping from one property to the next to try and evade his arrest,” le Grange said. “He injured himself when he fell off a wall and our reaction officer arrested him.”
A brown suitcase containing power tools and manual tools was recovered and the suspect was handed over to the Hillcrest SAPS.
Le Grange said one of the company’s reaction officers who was patrolling Morrison Road in Ashley, also arrested another suspect.
“He spotted three men, two of them were on the roof of a house and one was standing at the back of the property, at around 4am in the morning,” le Grange said.
“They had already removed four roof tiles. When they realised they had been seen they immediately abandoned the burglary and tried to flee the scene. The quick thinking reaction officer arrested one of the men on the property,” said le Grange.
The suspect was handed over to the Pinetown SAPS who attended the scene.
“We commend our reaction officers for the bravery they have shown in apprehending the suspects. The recent arrests prove just how well a community partnership between residents, the police and security companies can work,” concluded le Grange.
