WBHS wins seventh gala
Westville Boys' High School wins the Alan Burt Interprovincial for seventh consecutive year.
WESTVILLE Boys’ High School won the Alan Burt Interprovincial trophy for the seventh consecutive year.
This past weekend WBHS travelled to Johannesburg to defend their title at the Alan Burt Interprovincial Gala.
The gala pits the top five Gauteng schools against the top five KZN schools.
WBHS still felt that they had enough fire power to bring the trophy home again.
In the last few years, several schools in KZN and other provinces have concentrated on improving their swimming, none more so than St David’s Inanda, Pretoria Boys’ and Glenwood. Glenwood have a particularly powerful U15 age group.
The gala proved to be an extremely exciting affair with all the races decided in the last few metres with WBHS again emerging victorious by the end of proceedings by winning 19 of the 30 races on offer.
Their U14 age group proved particularly strong, and although their U15 team played second fiddle to Glenwood for the majority of the time they did win two of the six events.
Glenwood won four races, Pretoria boys three, St Stithian’s and St David’s two races.
Westville Boys’ High School were without their U19 star, Daniel Ronaldson, who is doing service for the SA Men’s team at the BHP Billiton Aquatic Series in Australia, competing against Australia, China, Japan and Brazil.
The finals points and positions were: WBHS – 287, Pretoria Boys’ – 236.5, Glenwood – 222, St David’s – 208, St Stithians – 170, Kearsney College – 154, College – 119, DHS – 108, KES – 99.5 and Parktown – 44.
