WBHS triumphs at BDO quiz

Westville Boys' High School are the Highway area winners in round one of the BDO Schools Quiz.

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School set the pace for the 2014 BDO Schools Quiz when they took top spot in the first round of the competition for contestants from the Highway area at their own school on Wednesday, 9 April.

They competed against 52 other pupils. Thomas More College entered two teams of four pupils, Westville Girls’ High School entered six teams and Westville Boys’ High School had five teams.

Thomas More School came a close second with 57 points to Westville Boy’s score of 62 points.

This is the fifth year running that teams of four Grade 10 and 11 pupils from schools throughout the greater Durban and Pietermaritzburg area will pit their general knowledge skills against one another.

All are aiming to be named BDO Schools Quiz champions for 2014 and earn the chance to win R10 000 worth of books for a disadvantaged school of their choice donated by BDO and Books and Books and an Apple iPod shuffle each from BDO for themselves.

Sally Juckes, audit and assurance partner at BDO Durban said they were impressed with the performance of all the participants in the first round. She added that the competition was tough and the atmosphere was tense but the evening ended in a spirit of camaraderie as all the contestants congratulated the winning team.

Another three regional rounds will be held before 8 May, with the championships taking place at Clifton School on 15 May.

Thirty schools have entered the competition this year, five more than last year when a team from Glenwood High School were named the champions.
