Eastons’ love conquers all
The Eastons have four daughters: two live overseas, and they have nine grandchildren altogether.
BEING separated by work did not divide the Eastons, who celebrated 60 years of marriage on Thursday, 10 September. David (85) and Alma Easton (88) married in 1955 in Englefield, England and moved to South Africa in 1965.
The two lovebirds met at a party. David said Alma was new in town and did not know many people. “I saw this attractive young woman and I introduced myself. We went out after a few days and I introduced her to one of my hobbies, which is railways. We got along very well, and I just knew that she was ‘the one’.
“Alma was working as a nursing sister at the time, and I was in construction. We dated for a year and then got married,” said David.
David said they have not had any major problems in their marriage. “I have worked in almost every country in the world and I would be away for months at a time; my wife would stay behind and look after the children, and I admire her so much for that – it’s not easy looking after four children at once.”

David said respect for your partner is important for every relationship to work:
“In every relationship there are obstacles, but patience and love conquer all.” Alma is currently in a care centre as she has had a stroke, but David visits her every afternoon. “I see her every day and tuck her into bed every night,” said David.
