THE Grade 9 Life Sciences class of St Mary’s DSG Kloof hosted the Annual Science Expo which ran from 16-20 May.
The pupils started working on their science projects at the beginning of the year.
Life Sciences teacher, Cheron McConnell, said, “We encourage them to choose a topic of their interest, work on a poster, iPad presentation and interview before the expo.”
McConnell said these projects helped them familiarise themselves with scientific methods, asking questions and producing results.
The expo is also a platform for the girls to show how well they understand the topic they had chosen.
“They are prepared to take risks and go into laboratories to expand their knowledge,” she said.
The girls were enthusiastic and proud to share their work and how they came about solving the issues their projects hoped to find out.
A theme that was very popular with the pupils was water use, the drought and the safety of drinking water which showed the girls were aware of current issues affecting the country.
