Man stabbed, eight injured in weekend accidents
Paramedics rushed to various scenes and accidents across the Highway area this weekend.
Two critical in M7 crash
PARAMEDICS were flagged down along the M7 on Saturday afternoon to help two injured bikers.
“Reports from the scene indicated that a couple was heading towards Pinetown when a vehicle travelling towards Durban drove across the median and crashed into them,” said Chris Botha, media liaison officer for Netcare 911.
The husband and wife were both critically injured and were stabilised before they were taken to hospital. The driver of the vehicle had minor injuries but did not require any treatment.
Mountain biker seriously injured in Shongweni
On Saturday morning, paramedics rushed to Summerveld to help an injured mountain biker.
“Reports indicated that the biker lost control on wet rocks when he fell,” said Chris Botha, of Netcare 911.
Paramedics said the man was found lying in a waterlogged area, was in severe pain and had a very low body temperature.
He was stabilised at the scene, but due to the severity of his injuries and the rough terrain, a helicopter was called.
“Once the Red Cross helicopter landed, he was placed onto an aviation stretcher and airlifted to a specialised hospital in Durban,” said Botha.
Man stabbed outside Pinetown college
At 2am on Saturday, paramedics were called to a scene where a man was stabbed outside Edgewood College in Pinetown.
“Paramedics found the man lying on the ground with multiple stab wounds. He was in a critical condition,” said Botha.
He was stabilised and taken to hospital.
