THE judge’s decision to grant two Shongweni K9 constables who were arrested last week for assault with grievous body harm bail of R 2 500 caused angry protesters to oppose bail.
The protesters blocked the entrances and exits to the courts and wanted to take the law into their own hands.
The court decision did not sit well with the crowd who believed that the two officers did not deserve bail and they pose a threat to the community.

Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesman, Moses Dlamini said the two constables, aged 30 and 37 who are based at the Shongweni K9 Unit were arrested by the IPID on Thursday, 1 June for the alleged assault of two people.
“It is alleged the policemen arrested and assaulted two KwaDabeka men who were in a car together after stopping them and searching their vehicle on 20 April 2017. The assault occurred on a number of occasions over a number of days. The suspects also set their dogs on the victims,” said Dlamini.
The IPID is also investigating a case of intimidation and corruption against the constables.
“The corruption relates to a demand of ten thousand rand made from the brother of one of the victims. These investigations are ongoing,” he said.
It is alleged that the policemen went to one of the victims and told him to withdraw the assault case against them within three days, failing which he would be killed.
The crowd claimed that the two constables were also linked to the brutal murder of KwaDabeka mom and teenage daughter, but the IPID have denied the allegations saying they are still investigating.
