WINSTON Park Primary School has chosen Grade 5 learner, Jodi Mackinnon (right), as its SPAR Star of the Month.
Jodi started mountain bike racing when she was five years old. At the age of eight, she achieved notable successes winning the Compendium Derby 20km in the U10 category.
She was awarded the Chairman’s Choice award from Giba Gorge Cycling club for competing in all nine ROAG Marathon events and finishing in the top two in all events in her age group last year.

Although Jodi is under 11 years, she has achieved the following results so far this year: she came third in the girls U13 race at the Shongweni Summer Series Cross Country; second overall in the girls U12 KZN Cross Country Cup; Jodi is currently second in the girls U12 with one event remaining at the SA Cross Country Cup; she was second in the girls U12 Illovo Wartburg Mountain Bike 20km; second in the girls U12 Husquarna Mid Illovo Mountain Bike Classic 20km; she came first in the girls U12 and second overall in the Sappi Karkloof Classic 20km with a fast time of under a hour; and finally finished first overall U12 in the KZN Schools Eliminator Series.
This young lass is definitely an aspiring sports star.
