Kearsney celebrates 25 years of musical success

While its music history was explored at the celebration, the local school also celebrated 25 years of democracy in South Africa.

A WONDERFUL evening was enjoyed last week when the Kearsney College Choir was joined by Kearsney Choir alumni to celebrate 25 years of the award-winning choir as well as 25 years of South Africa’s democracy.

Old Boys, Kearsney’s former directors of music, Angela Stevens (1994 to 2008) and Bernard Kruger (2009 to 2015) and guests joined the positive and uplifting celebration of rich voices and diverse song.

Indumezulu: A Celebration of Voices ranged from instrumental and classical, to folklore, pop and massed choir numbers.

Under the baton of current director of music, Marshell Lombard, Kearsney’s choir performed its signature blend of classical, pop and indigenous music, which has won it 15 gold and seven silver medals at the World Choir Games (the Olympics for Choirs) since 2000.
