iThemba Closet brings hope and style to the community

iThemba closet is up and running accepting more donations as proceedings go towards the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust.

THE second-hand clothing store iThemba’s Closet is officially up and running after it recently hosted a vibrant market day at the centre operated by the Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust (HACT).

The community came out to support a popular Friday late shopping event which saw iThemba’s Closet open alongside the Ubuntu Ground Café, Woza Moya shops, and HACT’s plant nursery. Guests also enjoyed an exhibition showcasing the work of talented local art interns — creating a lively space that celebrated community, creativity, and the spirit of giving back.

The initiative offers gently used clothing for men, women, teens, and children, with proceeds going directly toward HACT’s essential hospice and palliative care services.
Christelle Hollis, the organiser behind iThemba’s Closet, said the outpouring of community support has been truly encouraging.
“Seeing people come in, find beautiful items, and know that their purchase is helping someone in need — that’s what iThemba’s Closet is all about. We’re excited to grow and continue supporting the care of patients who are facing life-limiting illnesses with dignity and compassion,” she said.
