Pinetown officers commended for swift arrests

The members responded to a house robbery in Pinetown which resulted in a shootout. Four suspects were arrested.

THE four police officers who were involved in the arrest of house robbery suspects in Pinetown were commended for their swift action by Pinetown SAPS, Pinetown CPF and ProForce Security at a function at the station.

On Tuesday, August 12, the police responded to an incident which resulted in a shoot-out with suspects on Underwood Road in Pinetown.

On the day of the incident, KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda reported that police responded to a house robbery on Oxford Road in Paradise Valley in Pinetown.

“As members approached the house which was being robbed, police identified a white VW Polo which was driving in the opposite direction and immediately attempted to stop the vehicle.

“The driver of the vehicle ignored police’s instructions and sped off. A high speed chase ensued and on Underwood Road, the suspects opened fire towards police officers.

“Police returned fire and after the shoot-out, the suspects were found to have sustained gunshot wounds and were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital under police guard,” said Netshiunda.

Two firearms, a flat screen TV, jewellery, two high-end brand handbags and home appliances were found in the possession of the suspects. Pinetown CPF chairperson Justin Bosse said this was one of the station’s major arrests and the members deserved to be recognised.

“We got together with ProForce Security and we decided to acknowledge them for the job well done. The members received vouchers from Oxford,” he said.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Jennifer Naidoo said one suspect is still in hospital.

“The other three suspects are currently detained at Westville Prison and were denied bail.”

I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites.
