National Wills Week: Get free advice on drafting your will

It is uncomfortable thinking about death. Yet, preparing for it is one of the most important ways to protect your loved ones by ensuring that your wishes are honoured. Visit Legal Aid SA offices to get free advice and help to draft your will.

LEGAL Aid South Africa (Legal Aid SA), in partnership with the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DoJ&CD) and the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA), will be helping the public draft a will during National Wills Week, taking place from September 15-19.

The Masters of the High Courts have estimated that more than 70% of working South Africans do not have wills, making their assets vulnerable to being distributed to people the deceased may not have wanted to benefit from their estate.

During this week, Legal Aid SA’s Bongani Mahlangu said people can get free advice and help to draft or update their will from qualified legal professionals.

To get assistance, people need to bring an ID, a list of your assets, and the details of the person(s) you want to leave them to.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
