Hammarsdale residents invited to a special CPF meeting

Residents are invited to attend a special meeting to elect a new Hammarsdale CPF Executive Committee and adopt the updated CPF Constitution.

THE SAPS and the Mpumalanga/Hammarsdale Community Police Forum (CPF) are inviting residents to a special meeting on Saturday, November 15.

The meeting will be held at the Cliffdale Primary School Hall at 14:00. Speaking on behalf of the residents, Theone Theodorou said the purpose of the meeting is for the dissolution of the old CPF; to present and consider the adoption of the new CPF Constitution for the Hammarsdale CPF; and elect a new CPF Executive Committee in accordance with the adopted Constitution and applicable CPF Guidelines.

With CPF organisations playing a huge role in forming a bridge between the police and the public, Theodorou urged community members, organisations, and stakeholders within the Hammarsdale policing precinct to attend and participate.

She mentioned that an independent person will preside over the meeting until a new CPF Executive Committee is duly elected.

“Community members should partake in Community Policing Forum (CPF) meetings to actively improve local safety, hold the police accountable, and foster a strong, collaborative partnership between residents and law enforcement. This partnership is crucial for identifying and solving local crime problems effectively,” advised Theodorou.

She said CPFs provide a platform for residents, local organisations, and police to meet, discuss specific safety concerns, identify crime hotspots, and collaboratively develop action plans and solutions.

“Community participation allows residents to monitor the effectiveness and efficiency of local police services, handle complaints, and ensure police actions are transparent and align with community values.”

She added that residents can share valuable, on-the-ground information and intelligence about criminal activities or suspicious behaviour, helping law enforcement to be more proactive in addressing potential threats and identifying suspects.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
