Pinetown church hosts career expo

A career expo was held at Pinetown's Parish Of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church to guide young people in making informed career and study choices.

A CAREER Expo with the aim of supporting and guiding young people in making informed career and study choices was hosted at the Parish Of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pinetown on Saturday (February 7).

Organised by the Daughters of St Anne, the initiative was designed to expose matriculants and young adults to various career paths, educational institutions, and available opportunities, while encouraging them to plan meaningfully for their future.

Daughters of St Anne member Charity Stainbank said this expo is intended to become an annual event to assist members of the community who often lack access to resources and career guidance.

On Saturday, 12 exhibitors participated in the event, including four educational institutions.

“After the informative morning with guest speakers from diverse fields, efforts are currently underway to support at least one learner with essential resources such as data and transport.

“This support will enable him to pursue available opportunities and complete the necessary applications or assessments.”

The career expo was positively received by the community.

One of the parents who attended the expo, Thobani Mazibuko, said he has made it his mission to attend career expos as it will help his children who are in high school decide on a career choice and have different options.

“I am glad that the church also offers services like this. My eldest child is in Grade 10 and has no idea what she will study when she finishes matric; this expo was really an eye opener,” he said.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
