Hillcrest Primary supports blood drive

The recent blood drive was a massive success, with learners, staff, parents, and the wider community pitching in to support the Hillcrest Donor Centre.

A RECENT blood drive hosted by Hillcrest Primary School was a success with learners, staff, parents and the wider school community coming together to support a life-saving cause.

According to the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) donor relations officer, Anele Ngcobo, the aim for this blood drive was to support the Hillcrest Donor Centre located at Colony Centre in Hillcrest.

“The Hillcrest Primary School community participated actively, with strong turnout and support. As a result, the donor centre collected 349 units in the month of May, an improvement compared to 289 units collected in April.”

Janet Bell and Julie Kemraj support the blood drive.

She expressed SANBS’ sincere appreciation for this support and said they look forward to an ongoing partnership with the school.

To become a blood donor, you must:

· Be between the ages of 16 and 75 years
· Weigh 50kg or more
· Be in good health
· Lead a healthy lifestyle
· Consider your blood safe for transfusion to a patient
