Kearsney serves 24th tennis festival
While Kearsney will play host to the festival, matches will take place at school's across the Upper Highway area.
FOR the 24th consecutive year, Kearsney College will host the country’s top tennis schools during a three-day invitation festival from 3 to 5 May.
With a new headline sponsor this year, the Growthpoint Kearsney Tennis Festival promises to showcase the strength of tennis among aspiring youngsters from schools across the country.
Current top seeded tennis schools, Grey College from Bloemfontein and Paul Roos from Stellenbosch, will participate together with Affies (Pretoria), Pretoria Boys, Selborne College (East London) and Rondebosch Boys High (Cape Town), as well as local teams Clifton College (Durban) and hosts, Kearsney.
Kearsney’s 1st team will be captained by head prefect, Kade Mindry, together with Bryce van der Merwe, Greg Cobbledick, Shail Chetty, Tristan Sebire, Caleb Fyvie and Matthew McMurray.

The festival has become a highlight on the national schools’ tennis calendar and, while it is hosted by Kearsney College, the 56 competitors will play on courts at Kearsney, Highbury and St Mary’s schools.
The schools will play five matches and each consists of six singles and three doubles matches. These round robin matches will yield a semi-final, final, play-off matches and an eventual winner.
The event will coincide with Kearsney’s other sports fixtures against Maritzburg College at home that weekend, which always draws large crowds.
Festival organiser and Kearsney MIC of tennis, Anthony Willows, said Kearsney was grateful to its new headline sponsor, Growthpoint Properties, while Sportsmans Warehouse and Wilson will continue to support the event.
