Groove on down to jazz show

THE eight member jazz band takes to the stage in a new show, Show Time, at the Rhumbelow Theatre in Umbilo at the end of this month.

Platform Jazz, features Cathy Peacock on the trumpet, Dunc Wooldridge on trombone, Ian Holloway on clarinet, Andreas Kappen on double bass, Bruce Baker on drums, Jono Judge on sax, Melvin Peters on piano, with Shelley McLean on vocals.

This time, the band will play wonderful jazz tunes from films and musical shows spanning from pre-1920s to current times. The performance will include such evergreens as Night and Day, My Favourite Things from The Sound of Music, The Bare Necessities from the Jungle Book, You’ve got a friend in me from Toy Story, the beautiful ballad Somewhere over the rainbow from The Wizard of Oz, and the hard hitting fabulous jazz big band numbers Straighten up and fly right and Hello Dolly!

Shows are on Friday 24 January and Saturday 25 January at 8pm and two shows on Sunday 26 January at 2pm and 6.30pm. The show will be staged again the following weekend on Friday 31 January and Saturday 1 February at 8pm, with two shows on Sunday 2 February at 2pm and 6.30pm. The venue opens 90 minutes before show for a picnic dinner.

Tickets cost R120 each or R100 each for pensioners and tables of eight or more. The theatre is situated on Cunningham Avenue.
