Local NPO will host a fashion exchange in Cowies Hill this week.

JOIN in on the Chic Mamas Do Care fashion exchange event on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 February at 35 Hillside Road in Cowies Hill.

The NPO consists of women who care about the children of South Africa and their future. “We are passionate about education, believe in the importance of early childhood development and that each child should have the opportunity to grow up in a safe, stimulating environment,” said Jen Du Bois, head of the Durban branch of Chic Mamas Do Care.

It launched in October 2013 with a hugely successful fashion exchange party. Proceeds and donations have since funded the installation of a jungle gym for the 120 Grade R’s at the Christianenburg Primary School in Clermont. It has also helped with the establishment of a double water tank system and vegetable garden to supplement the food needs of a NPO, which cares for 178 Aids orphans and children in need. “Through donations, these children were able to enjoy a Christmas party and stationery was collected for them. In addition, a refurbished photocopier and 10 computers have been donated to the school. Jumble sale proceeds have covered the purchase of library books and CD players as part of our literacy initiative,” said Jen.

For 2014, the Chic Mamas Do Care Durban has committed to funding early childhood development workshops for 100 township and rural teachers.

To support their projects, the team of volunteer Mamas sell excellent quality, no longer wanted clothing and accessories donated by individual supporters, clothing retailers, boutiques and designers. To this end they collect garment donations on an on going basis. Their next fashion exchange event is on 26 February from 9am to 5.30pm and on 27 February from 9am to 5pm. To donate garments, contact Janine on 083 792 4445 or Lynda on 082 335 1859.
