DURBAN will be treated to a once-off-show with local musician Vikram Hazra on Friday 21 March at DUT at 5pm.
Hazra has internationally been known for his unique style of music, which fuses ancient Sanskrit chants and secular wisdom with the sounds of the electric guitar to create a genre that transcends boundaries, uplifts the spirit and scintillates the audience.
The event is hosted by The Art of Living Foundation, an international volunteer based humanitarian and educational NGO movement, that was founded in 1981 by His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
The passionate musician’s concerts evoke strong reactions from diverse audiences across the globe. Years of spiritual sadhana, (ego-transcending spiritual practice) along with uncompromising attention to tonal crafting and sound design, as well as the gift of an impeccable musical ear, have helped Hazra to create a unique sound. “Our style of spiritual music involves sculpting sound in such a way that the listener hears the silence contained within,” said Hazra.
His concerts seamlessly melt diverse styles into an organic whole, from simple Indian folk bhajans (Indian devotional song) to African and African-American spirituals. Show-goers can also expect compositions of Adi Shankaracharya as well as contemporary blues and jazz.
