Workers shine in top stars competition

TOPstars roadshow 2014 a great success.

TOPSTARS is an annual exciting singing competition, where all the employees of the Shoprite Group participate in a singing contest.

The people who compete are the ones who assist their customers to have a great shopping experience at Checkers, Shoprite, Usave, House and Home, OK Furnitures, Liquorshop, Computicket, MediRite and Hungry Lion chain stores.

This singing competition uses the voice as a tool for ordinary employees, to be exposed to goal setting and empowerment.

The Durban road show semi-finals 2014 were held at the Gateway Hotel, Umhlanga on Tuesday 8 July. The road show which has been held for the past eight years, is produced by Mynie Grove, renowned music business and TV personality together with her AmaGroove production team.

This year’s judge and MC was Katlego Maboe, a TV personality, also known for SABC 3’s Expresso. Mynie Grove said, “TOPstars aim to develop a sense of value in doing a job well, it could be singing or being a packer, the same principle applies.

A strong individual can make a team stronger, and aspiring to excellence as smart individuals is what becomes the motivation to work towards being strong team members.”

Grove is very proud to have recorded the first album titled, Allstars. A hand picked group of previous TOPstars talent performs special and meaningful motivational songs some of which the TOPstars wrote themselves.

The first single is titled Afrikan party and is accompanied by a music video. This year’s event was spectacular, the crowd was engaged and managers gave their full support to their participants.

This is the first year the KwaZulu-Natal Region was united with the Shoprite Group from Swaziland. Mpumelelo Khuzwayo from Shoprite Bridgecity won this year’s TOPstars semi-finals.

He was overcome with emotions of joy and happiness as he did not expect to win.

“I am very happy I participated but I doubted myself. I thank my colleagues for the encouragement and believing in me. I will make them proud in the grand finale,” said Khuzwayo.
