Boolulu Uncle returns in sequel
The Dingalings Production Company hosts Senzo Mthethwa in its sequel, The Return of the Boolulu Uncle, at the Playhouse Loft Theatre from Tuesday 16 to Sunday 21 September.
IN 2010, Durban audiences met the vibrant and skillful actor, Senzo Mthethwa, in his one-man show called The Boolulu Uncle.
The show won the coveted best play according to the Musho Festival audience survey and went on to be nominated for five theatre awards of which it won three.
This September, The Dingalings Production Company hosts Senzo Mthethwa in his sequel, The Return of the Boolulu Uncle at the Playhouse Loft Theatre from Tuesday 16 to Sunday 21 September.
This charming sequel sees the brilliant Senzo continue to tell the story of him growing up as a young Zulu boy in the Hindu home of the Chettys. Filled with pathos and humour, the story is set to capture the hearts and minds of audiences and fill them with the promise of what an amalgamation of two age-old and beautiful traditions, the Zulu and Hindu culture can bring. The story spans 20 years and takes the audience on a number of humorous and energetic journeys as Senzo searches for his identity trapped in a society that compartmentalises race, colour, culture and tradition.
The play is co-written and directed by Dingalings stalwarts, Kumseela Naidoo and Koobeshen Naidoo together with Senzo Mthethwa and promises to be an entertaining story-telling at its best. Senzo takes audiences on a captivating journey from his sorjouns on taxis to a marriage proposal, to the annual temple celebrations and visit to the local hospital.
Audiences can look forward to Senzo playing a host of characters with all the gusto that captivated the hearts of audiences of the previous Boolulu Uncle.
Shows are on at 8pm daily. Saturday and Sunday also has a 2pm matinee. Tickets cost R100 each and can be booked at Computicket at any Shoprite Checkers stores, Playhouse box office or Computicket online. For block bookings, e-mail: dingalingsproductions@gmail.com
