Tribute was paid to the Boks for the upcoming Rugby World Cup.

THE Gelofte School in Pinetown was buzzing with teams present on the day, icing, passing and placing cupcakes to form a magnificent mosaic of the South African flag and Springbok in order to pay tribute to the Bokke for the upcoming Rugby World Cup.

The SPAR group and its extended family made world history on Saturday as they made it into the Guinness World Records.

The group undertook the mammoth task of building the cupcake mosaic, consisting of 33 660 cupcakes (138.56m²) in order to break the world records title for the largest cupcake mosaic.

The previous record was 133.08m², consisting of 30 000 cupcakes (assembled by Betty Crocker by General Mills in Singapore on Wednesday, 12 August.

South Bakers sponsored cupcake mix and SuperSPAR Knowles baked a massive total of 35 000 cupcakes.

All the cupcakes were sponsored and many were donated to different charities in the Durban area. All the proceeds of the event were donated to Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer, a non-profit organisation that aims to increase awareness and help children affected by cancer through their love of baking cupcakes.

Supporting this worthwhile event were ex-Springboks, André Joubert and John Allan, and Sharks legend, Jacques Botes, local comedian, Aaron McIlroy, and national patron for Cupcakes of Hope, Mrs South Africa.
