Children to enjoy double dose of stage theatre

Take the little ones to the Rhumbelow Theatre this festive season for a fun, meaningful Christmas adventure.

DON’T miss the two children’s show at Rhumbelow Theatre in Umbilo this festive season.

The two shows are Rumpelstiltskin and Criss Cross Christmas starring Rowan Bartlett, Mtho Zulu and Clare Mortimer. Both shows are on at 11am and at 1.30pm and alternate their times each day from 28 November to 22 December.

Durban theatre’s Clare Mortimer has written two delightful plays, especially for the young ones which promises to be full of laughter, song, dance and audience participation.

Criss Cross Christmas, is about poor hapless elf Holly, who is being dragged from mall to mall to sell Christmas cheer in the form of toys, and sweets by the tireless terrible duo of Noel, the glutinous gluttonous reindeer and Carole, the warbling, horrid little fairy. As the tale unfolds, Noel and Carole continue to try and convince their audience and Holly that Christmas is about getting and spending and eating as much as you can, while little Holly feels certain it must mean something else. He is unfortunately pitted against very stubborn little companions indeed. Holly needs your help, so go along and give him a hand persuading these two very spoilt Christmas characters.

Much loved children’s theatre actors Rowan Bartlett (Winnie-the-Pooh, The Wizard of Oz) and Mtho Zulu join Clare Mortimer on stage for this comic Christmas story. After the show, there will be a short workshop where the children learn a new dance to teach family and friends over the holidays.

In the second show, Rumpelstiltskin, you will meet a greedy King and his evil wife, the Queen, her vicious pet crow, and their son the Prince as well as the foolish-talking Miller who drinks too much, his beautiful daughter and a host of other village characters. Not forgetting the strange creature that lives in the woods, singing to himself in the dead of night. Clare Mortimer, Rowan Bartlett and Mthokozisi Zulu will take you through the woods and back, armed with masks and puppets to bring you the tale of Rumpelstiltskin.

A short Christmas decoration making workshop will follow after the show to clear the cobwebs of creativity.

Snacks and juices will be on sale. Hot dogs on sale between shows if you are booked for both shows on the same day. Tickets are R70 each. Book at Computicket or contact Ailsa on 083 250 2690 or e-mail roland@stansell.za.net.
