Fabulous reads – Fantasy novel burns bright with bewitching beauty

Book review - Witch's Pyre by Josephine Angelini.

Witch’s Pyre, Josephine Angelini, Pan Macmillan, ISBN: 9781447260882

LILY has just watched the love of her life die in front of her eyes.

His death lies heavily on her conscience as she attempts to save her new world, one filled with magic and deadly creatures, from imminent destruction.

Both Lily and her tight-knit Coven are dealing with the after affects of losing a valuable team member and stumble upon a piece of information that could unite or tear their world apart.

She uses the pain from her past to fuel her quest to re-balance the scales and save millions of lives. She offers herself freely to be burnt at the stake countless times to ensure the safety of her people.

The break between the two books was an absolute killer as the ending for book two definitely left you hanging on a sharp edge with just your pinky finger. I definitely felt the gap when I picked up this book as I had forgotten who many of Lily’s Coven were.

Angelini has other plans though and rather dives right into the finale’s storyline without any quick, cleverly thought out catch up pieces.

That is where the gripes end and the magical journey begins.

Lily certainly has grown since the first book and has faced countless challenges along the way, molding her into a perfect no-nonsense, powerhouse of a witch.

This story is unique, gripping and subtly tackles many issues faced in our society today.

The final book in the Worldwalker trilogy is packed with beautifully crafted bite-sized portions of action, magic, mayhem, deceit and subterfuge, all culminating in an intensely satisfying YA read.
