Fabulous reads – Slow build for Monroe’s thrilling mystery

Book review - Find Me by JS Monroe.

Find Me, JS Monroe, Jonathan Ball Publishers, ISBN: 9781784978068

MYSTERY thrillers must be one of my all time favorite reads.

There is nothing quite like unraveling an existing puzzle. More often than not you are left completely speechless in the end.

However, it was incredibly difficult to really ‘get into’ J. S. Monroe’s recent novel, Find Me.

It is a painfully slow read, as the story only takes an interesting turn at chapter 19. I had to force myself to as some stages to tackle the chapters.

The two protagonists in the story, Jar and Rosa also feel shallow.

With most good books you grow to love the characters, but I just couldn’t connect with the duo. They seem to lack a spark that most lovable characters share.

The only reason I stuck with the book was because of my own pure curiosity. I needed to solve the riddle – what actually happened to Rosa?

The book stars out with Jar, still grieving the apparent suicide of his girlfriend, Rosa.

It has been five years since the depressed Cambridge student seemingly leap off the Cramer Pier, in London, never to be found again.

After all these years the grief stricken lover refused to believe that she killed herself. He spots her everywhere. In the crowd at the train station, at the pier and in his dreams. And he is determined to find her.

His paranoia and conviction grows more and more with each day – even more so when he is given a copy of her diary.

The story isn’t all bad, it is fraught with twists and turns. The ending is bound to make the read worthwhile.
