Fabulous reads – Psychological thriller will leave you shaken

Book review - Two Little Girls by Kate Medina.

Two Little Girls, Kate Medina , Jonathan Ball Publishers, ISBN: 9780008214012

THE story unfolds exactly a year after a young girl, Zoe Reynolds was found strangled on a beach near her home town, and now a second girl, Jodie Triggs has been found dead.

Both were found in a heart-shaped ring of shells with an eerie doll near their tiny bodies.

The similarities in the cases have riled up the determination of an accomplished, yet guilt ridden, detective Bobby “Marilyn” Simmonds, who failed to secure a conviction all those months ago.

Marilyn is still convinced that Zoe’s mother Carolynn is behind the murders, and hires psychologist Jessie Flynn to assist with the investigation when he hits a brick wall. However, Jessie believes in Carolyn’s innocence.

Kate Medina has brilliantly structured the novel with alternating chapters told from the perspectives of several different characters and you later learn that some of the characters weren’t exactly truthful.

Despite the ever growing mound of evidence against Carolynn you just cannot bring yourself to believe that she could be behind the death of her own daughter.

With complex, flawed and believable characters Two Little Girls will keep you guessing until the end. The truth is much darker and tragic than you could ever have imagined.-
