Clean, Juno Dawson, Pan Macmillan
Juno Dawson, who previously wrote under the name of James Dawson, is fast becoming the go-to author and contributor to some of the biggest names in the publishing industry.
In her latest novel, she tackles the usual controversial topics without effort and takes on the darker side of mental health with a bright light of understanding and acceptance.

Socialite and heiress, Lexi Volkov, has it all. The shiny life with famous friends and is quite literally the lifestyle of the rich and famous. The clubs, the parties, the music, the dancing… the alcohol, the drugs and the misery.
When Lexi almost dies from an accidental overdose, her brother books her into rehab. Here we begin Lexi’s recovery. The majority of the story is based on her time spent on the island (think mansion and pools and stables) and the other inpatients and their stories.
Clean deals with a number of triggering topics and a word of warning for any readers sensitive to the following topics: drug addiction, gender identity, eating disorders and self-harm. The novel does have a slight happily-ever-after shiny tinge to it but the issues it deals with are both real and relevant. A definite must-read!
