Fabulous reads: Linsteadt sets an enchanting scene for new series

Book review - The Wild Folk by Sylvia V Linstead.

The Wild Folk, Sylvia V Linsteadt, Penguin Random House, ISBN: 9781474934985

THIS book is a lovely read but I found it a little hard to get into. It is a perfect bedtime story either for a young reader, or for a parent to read to a child under the age of 10.
If you are reading this by yourself, it might be better suited for an elder reader, perhaps aged 11 or 12, as some of the words are more difficult than the average Grade 4 or 5 reader.
The story is delightful and very interesting. It has the ability to take you away to another world, which can mean time tends to disappear while you are reading it. So don’t pick it up just before you need to leave for an appointment, or you may find yourself running very late.

It would be perfect to read to while away time on a long bus journey, or car ride, as long as you are not prone to motion sickness due to reading in a moving vehicle.

This is a book about two brother who call on two children to help them save their beloved land. It is a touching story about loss and redemption as well as a tale warning about the danger of environmental destruction, which makes it very relevant for our current day.

I look forward to the second volume of Linsteadt’s Stargold Chronicles which is due to be released in a few months’ time. – Evangeline Thomassen (age 10)
