Fabulous reads – Debut novel packs a magical punch
Book review - Keyflame by Tallulah Lucy.

Keyflame, Tallulah Lucy (eBook)
“SOMETHING magical lurks in Lilah’s blood, and there are those in Grahamstown willing to kill her for it.”How refreshing to read a stand-alone fantasy novel set in South Africa. Tallulah Lucy has written an easy-reading, cracker of a debut.
Set in Grahamstown, Keyflame finds the perfect balance between real world and magical escapism. It is apparent that the author has drawn on her own university experience at Rhodes to create a colourful canvas that is the perfect backdrop for this remarkable story. I especially liked the fact that the South-Africanisms were vibrant and bold, but they didn’t overpower the story, or detract from an international appeal.

Lilah is a likeable, relatable character and her relationship with Kalin speaks to the romantic at heart.Great pacing, fantastic world-building, and character growth made this an absolute pleasure to read.
Admittedly, the first quarter is a slow-build. Necessary for the scene setting and introducing of characters, but once the story kicks into gear, it is a heart-racing rollercoaster ride, right through to the final page.
A wonderful read by an undeniable up-and-coming talent in the South African SFF genre.
