Major pothole on Inanda Road repaired
A part of the Waterfall community heaves a sigh of relief as a pothole gets fixed.

THE Waterfall community’s pothole troubles were finally eased following the repair to the infamous road hazard that had caused numerous incidents.
Last week, the Highway Mail reported on the pothole at Crinkley Bottom on Inanda Road, between Waterfall and Molweni. This long-standing issue had even led to a car being written off.
Following an on-site meeting involving the Waterfall Crestholme & Forest Hills Residents & Ratepayers Association’s Bruce Henderson, local business owner Yvonne Lovie, Dion Pieters, and Department of Transport representatives Muzi Sithole (chief director), Siqiniseko Shezi, and Noma Chili, repair work commenced.

“A very welcome sight greeted local residents in the Greater Waterfall and Crestholme area as the Department of Transport arrived on Inanda Road with all their equipment to begin remedial work at the now-famous pothole site. These potholes have caused significant damage to vehicles and major accidents in recent weeks, and we are grateful they are being addressed,” the association reported.
The association extended their gratitude to Ward 9 councillor Siyabonga Nala, who has been actively involved in the repair efforts.
“Our councillor has been in direct communication with the department to include and prioritise this project, as well as a much-needed upgrade to Inanda Road, in the new provincial budget for the financial year starting in April 2025.”
Nala expressed satisfaction with the repairs but stressed that more work is needed to ensure the potholes do not reappear.

“The entire stretch of Inanda Road leading to Molweni is riddled with potholes. I have urged the department to initiate a project to resurface the entire road.”
These developments follow KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlement Siboniso Duma’s launch of Operation Siyahlola, an inspection of roads damaged by recent rains. The inspection covered areas including Adams Mission and KwaNgcolosi, near Inanda Road.
