Conditions favour Come Fly With Me

Jack Milner

Come Fly With Me’s last two starts were over 1400m at Durbanville

Some of the leading fillies and mares in the Western Cape clash in a Conditions Plate over 1600m at Kenilworth today and one runner stands out under the race rules.

The Mike Bass stable saddles Come Fly With Me who looks a cut above the opposition. Her last two starts have seen her run second behind stable companion Inara who is a multiple Grade 1 winner.

Come Fly With Me’s last two starts were over 1400m at Durbanville, the second being the Grade 3 Diana Stakes.

Prior to that this daughter of Jet Master won two successive Pinnacle Stakes races in KwaZulu-Natal during the winter season, one over 1600m and the other over 1200m.

Fortunately for Come Fly With Me there is no Inara in this race and she should be able to take care of her opposition. She is well drawn at No 4 and has in-form Grant van Niekerk in the irons. On paper she is not the best weighted runner in the field – that position has gone to Sensible Lover – but she is second best with the soundest form.

Acrostar does have a weight advantage over Come Fly With Me, based on that Pinnacle Stakes over 1600m at Greyville. The Bass runner won by one length but Acrostar is now 4kg better off and on paper should be able to turn the form around. However, Justin Snaith’s charge has not raced for 109 days and could be in need of the run.

Moonsong Magic has a very good record over the course and distance with two wins and two places from four runs and must be in with a winning chance if the favourites fail.

Top weight Crystal Cavern produced a winning run last time following a more than three-month rest, over 1200m. However, her best form is over further – she finished a 0.70-length third in the Winter Oaks over 2200m – and could even find this 1600m a touch sharp.

Sensible Lover got a penalty of 9.5kg after beating Lazer Star in a 1450m feature at Turffontein but has not run to her rating since. She also needs to prove she will stay 1600m.
