Prioritise a pamper session

Spa treatments were once considered a luxury for the well-to-do elite. In today's non-stop world, where people are always trying to do more in less time, these treatments are slowly becoming a necessity.

Typically, spa treatments enhance physical and spiritual wellness, providing a breakaway from daily stresses. Not only do parents have to deal with getting their kids dressed and ready for school on time, but they know that the simple act of sending your child out into the world is even more fraught with dislikable possibilities. It’s a dog-eat-dog world, and people are desperately looking for new and innovative ways to get by.

While medical spas (which work hand in hand with traditional spa modalities) place greater emphasis on achieving instant results, integrating medical professionals, such as physiotherapists, osteopaths, and aestheticians, this spa provides more of a holistic healing process, brought about by extended periods of relaxation and pampering. Sound good?

This is the focus of the Valley Lodge Spa in Magaliesburg, winner of the Spalicious Award for Best Up and Coming Spa. The new facilities were built in 2009 to meet the requirements of the Portuguese soccer team, who were based at the venue for the 2010 World Cup. It offers hydrotherapy treatments with an indoor heated mineral pool, a jacuzzi, steam rooms and saunas, as well as a manicure and pedicure station, six treatment rooms, a relaxation area, deck and a Spa Café.

The spa also makes use of Six Skincare Products (Dermalogica-based treatments are also available). The range includes scented oils that provide further sensory enjoyment. Using light therapy to induce relaxation, pampering sessions can help heal emotional distress, rid the body of toxins, resolve muscle spasms and improve blood circulation. It’s a mind, body and soul experience that helps restore the body to its natural state. The body has a natural ability to heal, but without adequate rest, this process will not take effect.

Only 45 minutes outside of Johannesburg, Valley Lodge Spa is close enough to home to escape for an hour or two, but far enough to allow a weekend away and the full feeling of relaxation to set in. It will leave you feeling loose and lightweight and filled with a sense of calm.
