Dahmer: Can the stars tell us what makes a serial killer, a serial killer?

Recent shows have left audiences wondering what makes a serial killer - a serial killer? Turning to ancient wisdom may lead to some answers.

Paging through your daily horoscope or googling what the stars foretell is a pastime for millions across the world. But there is more to it. Astrology is an ancient, somewhat mathematical discipline that could, when analyses stretch beyond a few lines in a column, reveal much about a person’s life path, past, present and future journey.

And serial killers have a chilling life path. These days, Netflix has set a diet of Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy and Gotti for after-bedtime streaming. And it is incredible to watch these mass murderers’ psychology play out in a landscape of blood and utter cruelty.

Netflix’s docudrama Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story along with the Jeffrey Dahmer tapes are two chilling shows that leave audiences fascinated.

What makes a serial killer, a serial killer?

Turning to ancient wisdom may lead to some answers.

Astrologer Dr Angie Cruickshank said that some studies and research show that many serial killers share the same zodiac signs and personality traits.

She said: “We should never rely on one tenuous link, however, to leap to an assumption. The root of what makes someone a sociopath or psychopath is still unknown, though information can be gained through an investigation into their family history, the violence in their methods, their DNA and other mental disorders”.

But she said astrology gives a hint or two

Dr Cruickshank explains: “In the zodiac, the 12 signs are divided into three groups by something called modality.

“Each sign is either a fixed signmutable sign, or cardinal sign, and each of these modalities has a different set of personality traits that go along with it.

“Statistical analysis of the birth charts of serial killers suggests that Mutable signs like Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, the 12th principles (12th house, Pisces, Neptune and specific Moon aspects are expected to be frequent among serial killers as compared to the normal population.”

She unpacks this: “The signs fall at the end of a season: In the northern hemisphere Gemini falls at the end of spring, Virgo at the end of summer, Sagittarius at the end of autumn, and Pisces at the end of winter. It’s opposite in the southern hemisphere in terms of seasonality.

“Mutable signs are very adaptable and can go with the flow, so they don’t have a problem finding a compromise everyone can agree on. They’re solution-oriented and spontaneous. In the case of Gemini, they embody air and known for having a duality multiple sides or hidden personalities.”

Virgos, she said are meticulous and systematic and are the earthiest of the mutable signs. They live for patterns and routine.

Dr Cruickshank said: “Serial killers tend to commit acts that follow a characteristic, predictable behaviour pattern. Sagittarius is the best when it comes to activating and moving a project along and is the fire of the mutable signs.

“While it’s not quite the same ‘leadership’ quality we see in some other signs, Sagittarius has a go-getter spirit that helps them keep things moving. Sagittarius are more likely to take a chance. They are impulsive and spontaneous and don’t always think things through.”

According to astrology, Pisces are the water mutable and are empathetic, but sometimes, said Dr Cruickshank, this backfires.

She said: “Since they have the ability to feel collective pain they can walk into a situation as an empath and suddenly trigger all these dormant feelings in people, they can get overwhelmed and turn way inward as a coping mechanism“.

Psychopath

Serial killers are a subgroup of a broader category of psychopath. Dr Cruickshank said that there are other, though less prolific, astrological aspects to consider as well. These include stresses that the position of Mars can induce.

Dr Cruickshank said it is possible to deep dive into an individual’s chart and dig to find out whether the person may have a tendency toward becoming a serial killer.

She said: “It is a huge amount of information to compress and investigate on one single person’s life to see if they might end up a serial killer”.

There are loads of techniques and disciplines within astrology that would need to be applied, and, said Dr Cruickshank, that few astrologers, if at all, have the capacity to process so much data.

She added that forecasting future behavioural patterns could be a combination of situational and then, astrological. Even astrology chart behaviour between victims and perpetrators could provide clues, she said.

But to accuse someone of something that they have not done yet is very risky she warned. However, she added: “I do think that there would be valuable estimations and at least enable analysts to caution and explore these individuals especially around first arrests”.

John Wayne Gacy first worked as a clown at children’s and charity events as ‘Pogo the Clown’. By 1968, he was convicted of sexual assault against two boys, spending 18 months in prison. In August 1982 Dahmer was arrested for indecently exposing himself at Wisconsin State Fair Park, Dahmer was convicted and fined USD 50.

Dr Cruickshank suggested that to have had the astrological study and information included, well, it could have been valuable.

Dr Cruickshank reverted to noting how much astrological data would have to be sifted through to get to an answer, but, she added, it is entirely possible to forecast potential serial killer traits and, for that matter, study retrospective aspects of a killer like Dahmer’s Astro-psychology.
