DJ Lamiez Holworthy has revealed how ignoring pain nearly cost her life this August.

South African DJ and radio personality Lamiez Holworthy-Morule has opened up about a terrifying health ordeal that left her fighting for her life after an ovarian cyst ruptured while she was travelling to a gig on National Women’s Day on 9 August.
Holworthy said she had been experiencing recurring ovarian cysts and excruciating pain for some time. Her doctor had already advised her to undergo urgent surgery, but she asked to postpone the procedure so she could honour her work commitments. That decision almost proved fatal.
Lamiez Holworthy rushed into emergency surgery
Just minutes away from her scheduled performance in Brits, a massive cyst ruptured. According to Holworthy, the cyst had grown larger than her uterus.
She was rushed to hospital and immediately underwent emergency surgery. Doctors discovered multiple cysts and subsequently diagnosed her with endometriosis.
The ordeal did not end there
Hours after her first operation, Holworthy was rushed back into theatre after doctors discovered she was experiencing severe internal bleeding. She required another emergency procedure and a blood transfusion.
“I was shocked and deeply upset with my body for letting this happen,” she said.
The experience has prompted the media personality to reflect on the importance of listening to her body, particularly when experiencing persistent or unusual pain.
Lamiez urges women not to ignore pain
Holworthy has now urged women to take their health seriously and seek medical attention when something does not feel right.
“If you experience unusual back pain or abdominal pain, please visit the nearest doctor. I almost lost my life because I ignored mine and chose to put work first,” she warned.
She also highlighted the number of women living with ovarian cysts or endometriosis, stressing that chronic pain should never simply be accepted as part of life.
“Living with chronic pain is not normal, and there is no prize for working yourself to death. I learned that the hard way,” she said.
Lamiez addresses BBL rumours
While sharing details of her hospitalisation, Holworthy also addressed speculation online that her health crisis was linked to a cosmetic procedure.
“There is no BBL,” she clarified.
She explained that she underwent liposuction once in 2021 and said she experienced no further complications from the procedure.
Holworthy also criticised cyberbullying and urged people dealing with personal issues to seek constructive support instead of directing their anger towards others.
The DJ has since been discharged and is recovering at home with the support of her husband, rapper Khuli Chana, and her family.
