Samsung debuts new clamshell folding smartphone concept
The company did not provide any details because its rendition is still in the concept phase.

On the heels of the Galaxy Fold launch, Samsung revealed a new clamshell form factor for foldable smartphones at its annual developer conference.
On Tuesday, October 29, at the Samsung Developer Conference 2019, the company announced that despite early problems with the flexible Galaxy Fold having damaged the brand’s reputation, it has another style of folding smartphone in the works.
The company revealed a clamshell design — similar to what is expected in Motorola’s Razr revival — showing off what the future of foldable devices could look like.
Instead of doubling as a tablet as the Galaxy Fold does, this new form factor takes a conventionally-shaped smartphone — like the Galaxy S10, for example — and folds it in half forwards, much like the classic flip phones of the early 2000s.

Motorola is expected to launch a production version of a similar form factor concept in a few weeks.
The model is expected to resemble the iconic Razr, except that the dial pad and display on the inside of the clamshell have presumably been replaced with one long, folding screen.
As Samsung’s rendition is still in the concept phase, the company did not provide any details. But the reveal demonstrates that Samsung is not ready to give up on folding mobile devices.
