Woman critically injured in accident on R40 Hilltop Pass

When emergency services arrived at the scene the vehicle was on fire.

A woman was critically injured on Friday October 1, when her light motor vehicle collided with a truck on the R40 Hilltop Pass outside Mbombela.

Russel Meiring, the spokesperson for ER24, said the woman is believed to be in her 30s.

“ER24 and the provincial fire services arrived at 07:37 to find a light motor vehicle well alight in the middle of the road. The woman was lying approximately 20 metres away after she had been pulled from the car by bystanders. The truck was parked on the side of the road a short distance away,” said Meiring in a statement.

Paramedics assessed the woman and found that she had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition.

She was treated on the scene immediately after which she was taken to Rob Ferreira Hospital for further urgent care.

“The provincial fire services were on the scene to extinguish the blaze,” said Meiring.

According to him, the details surrounding the incident are unknown.

“Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.”
