Yoga Day celebrated in tranquil botanical garden

Lowvelders enjoy the benefits of yoga.

In celebration of International Yoga Day, the General Consulate of India, Johannesburg, hosted an event at the Lowveld National Botanical Garden on June 14.

Approximately 100 attendees of all ages and proficiencies were led by Maya Bhatt, a professional yoga practitioner known for her diverse yoga styles. While still challenging their skills, everyone was able to follow along and relax.

Bhatt also continuously explained the health benefits of various positions, such as relieving back pain or full relaxation.

This year’s event was dedicated to the late Deidré Winifred Dornbrack, one of Mbombela’s pioneering yoga teachers, who devoted her life to promoting yoga in its pure and authentic form. Her legacy continues to inspire and guide the community.

Event co-ordinator Mahesh Srini, expressed appreciation for everyone who made the day possible, from organisers to attendees.

International Yoga Day takes place annually on June 21.
