Bluff man survives horror crash
The family man's car was sandwiched between two trucks and doctors worked around the clock to save his life.
A Bluff, Durban in KwaZulu-Natal family is thankful they can spend another day with father and husband, Jonathan Anderson, after a horrific accident almost claimed his life, reports Southlands Sun.
The accident happened on June 27 when Anderson’s car was sandwiched between two trucks during a crash. The fire brigade and Rescue Care paramedics worked together to extract him from the wreckage. With the use of the jaws of life and advanced life support, he was pulled out from his seat through the boot of his car from underneath the truck. He suffered a fractured skull, facial fractures, fractured jaw, collapsed lungs and five broken ribs, to name a few. “He was in (operating) theatre for six hours. Thank God he survived. If anyone didn’t believe in God, now they can because my husband is a living miracle,” said his wife, Lauren.
“The support I got, and all those who stood by me in my time of need really proved that there is love in this world.”
Speaking from their Bluff home, the Andersons thank their community, friends, family and even strangers for all the support and prayers that helped Jonathan and his family to pull through this ordeal. He is eternally grateful to the medical personnel from Hillcrest Private Hospital who worked around the clock to save his life, giving him the opportunity to watch his two young boys grow up. “The support I got, and all those who stood by me in my time of need really proved that there is love in this world. If it weren’t for the doctors and nurses, I might not be here. They were phenomenal and did everything possible to save me,” said Anderson.
Lauren, an ex-trauma nurse, got the call about his accident while she was at work. While she was used to seeing accident patients, she never thought something like this would happen to them. “Who would? You see it happen to other people in the news but never to your own family. People can’t believe it when they see Jonathan. It really was touch-and-go but here he is, sitting next to me,” she said.
After two weeks in the hospital, the father of two is ready to live again. “I’m just thankful for each day. I’m thankful that my faith in God has proven to be strong as he allowed me a longer life,” added Anderson.
