Das Neves and Lewis wear 2014 crowns
It was a night of splendour and much excitement as twenty most gorgeous faces walked the talk on the Bergvlam stage.

NELSPRUIT – Popular actor and television personality, Nico Panagio, handled MC duties at a glamorous pageant hosted by Bergvlam high school early last week. It was the annual Mr and Miss Bergvlam competition and the school hall was literally packed to capacity with youngsters showing their support for fellow classmates on the ramp. This year’s theme was modelled around super heroes and the contestants each performed a short segment donning their favourite hero’s signature outfit. The famed Stig shared the stage with Thor and Spiderman who in turn had to give way to the beauties of the comic universe as Supergirl, Wonderwoman and even Super Vlammie took the show into a well deserved refreshment break.
After weeks of fundraising by the finalists which included a visit to the children at Dasha school, a significant amount of funding was raised for the less fortunate. At Dasha school they were exposed to the world of autism. “Visiting Dasha was an eye opener and it made us understand how much we have to be thankful for,” said one of the finalists in a video broadcast of their trip to the school.
Following the beautiful evening-gown segment of the show, it was Justin das Neves and Monique Lewis who melted the judges’ hearts and were crowned as Mr and Miss Bergvlam 2013.
Justin Phillips and Keisha Jacobs took up their place as first prince and princess while Lifa Sibanyoni and Sihle Zwane occupied the covetted second prince and princess spot.
Das Neves and Lewis also walked away with Mr and Miss Personality as voted for by their fellow contestants, while Lewis added Miss Photogenic to her list of prizes on the night.
Fabio da Silva Faria took the award for Mr Photogenic.
Alicia Taljaard raised the most funds in the weeks prior to the event which earned her the title of Miss Reliable. The judging panel included local modelling greats, Mark and Candice Pattinson of Figures Models fame who had also assisted in preparing the contestants ahead of their big night. “We helped them with some of their stage routines and posture, but judging by how great the event went on the evening, the finalists brought their best to the party and that was really what made the magic happen,” said Mark Pattinson.
With chief organizer, Ms Mart-Marié Gouws at the helm, the evening went without a single hiccup. “We look forward to the exciting new outreach programmes and fund raisers lined up for Mr and Miss Bergvlam 2014,” said Gouws.
