High school beats Uplands in the final
Barberton reached the final against the hosts, Uplands College, and managed to beat them 2-1.
BARBERTON – Barberton High Scool’s senior soccer team took part in the Lowveld Challenge Cup at Uplands College recently. Their first game was against Bergvlam High.
Siswe Lencoe scored the first goal for BHS by means of a free kick. Bergvlam matched this ten minutes later. After the final whistle, the teams went head to head in a penalty shootout and BHS managed to win the game on penalties 4-3. Man of the match was Siswe Lencoe.
Barberton reached the final against the hosts, Uplands College, and managed to beat them 2-1. Goals were scored by Thabi Malephane and Damian Mbambo.
Both goals were scored by means of free kicks and BHS were crowned Lowveld Challenge Cup Champions. Thabi Malephane was awarded the player of the tournament trophy and Mr Wayne Kruger won the coach of the tournament trophy. BHS made history by winning this trophy. The tournament will be held annually.
