Shift in management for TCM

The new municipal manager is said to be Mr Gilbert Nkosi, who also forms part of the task team sent by the MEC in an attempt to salvage the ailing municipality.

LYDENBURG – A change in management recently took place as the former acting municipal manager, Mr Tumelo Ratau was appointed as acting chief financial officer (CFO) after 20 days in office.

The new municipal manager is said to be Mr Gilbert Nkosi, who also forms part of the task team sent by the MEC in an attempt to salvage the ailing municipality.

The DA said in a statement regarding the appointment of Nkosi and Ratau; “It is becoming increasingly clear that the provincial government has no answer for the governance crisis in Thaba Chweu, and we calls on cooperative governance MEC SPD Skhosana to clarify and provide long-suffering residents with the reasons behind these changes.”

They also said it seemed as if the ongoing political factionalism within the local ANC had taken its toll on MEC Skhosana’s task team, rendering it powerless to bring this municipality back from the brink.

“The DA believes that the only remaining answer to this crisis is for MEC Skhosana, along with premier David Mabuza and the rest of the ANC cabinet to admit to their collective failure and to dissolve this council in terms of Section 139 (1)(c) of the Constitution, and to declare fresh elections.

It is clear that the premier, the MEC and the entire provincial administration have failed to bring transparent and accountable local government to Thaba Chweu, and that residents cannot be forced to endure a future filled with uncertainty as this municipality stumbles from one crisis to the next.”

The newspaper sent through queries regarding the appointment of Nkosi and Ratau. TCM said that it would only be able to provide a comprehensive report after a council meeting scheduled for Friday (today).
